Hi journalists & co!
ASBA needs your help to document the birth of a new Australian sauna culture. For that reason, we’re a super media-friendly organisation. Got a question? Get an answer. Want a story? See below.
Contact us, or email info@asbasweat.org.
Interviews can be arranged with ASBA president, Jack Tsonis (0412 414 476). We can also help to provide hi-res imagery for your story.
If you look around the website, you’ll see that we are still building everything – the organisation, as well as the website. ASBA is completely volunteer run, so things are going to take a while. If you want to see what we’re about, check our goals. If you want something fun, check our constitution (we recommend checking section 20.4.9 and section 32).
If you want to run a story about ASBA, we’d love to cooperate. You can even come and have a sauna with us! Now wouldn’t that be fun?
ASBA is a fast, unfolding story, so watch this space.
** ASBA is currently preparing a full Press Kit. See below for basic information. **
Looking for a story? Here’s four ideas:
1. Australia has just gained membership to the International Sauna Association (ISA).
Established in 1956 (under the lead of Finland and Germany), the ISA now has over 20 members. Representing Australia, ASBA is the 21st member. This is a big news story, and we think someone should cover it. We’re already cooperating with the ISA to be part of their 2018 International Congress in Sweden. The Congress happens every four years. We’re hoping to host it in Australia in 2026!
2. ASBA has just opened for a call for Foundation Membership.
Anyone who joins before April 3, 2018, earns the rank of Foundation Member and will get an (F) in their membership code. We need the true believers who can offer a donation to help get ASBA off the ground. Everyone gets a sweet Welcome Pack. If you donate $500, you get a mobile sauna party. We also have t-shirts. And towels. And a you get a waterproof Certificate of Membership. Plus some sauna-proof business cards.

3. ASBA is encouraging the creation of local and regional sauna associations.
We are Australia’s new peak sauna body, but we are starting peak down – there are currently no other sauna or steam room associations anywhere in the country. Part of our membership drive includes a call for people to start their own local sauna club, or even a local ASBA chapter.
4. ASBA is supporting new efforts towards a global sauna research community.
ASBA is providing financial backing for the new International Journal of Sauna Studies (IJSS), which is being launched in 2018. The ASBA President (Jack Tsonis) is spearheading the launch of the IJSS. For more details, see his recent publication, “Sauna Studies as an Academic Field: A New Agenda for International Research”.
